Mission

In 2015 we felt God speak to us about leaving our home in Nottingham to move to the North East to start a new church.

When we visited Newcastle we knew instantly this was where we were meant to be, as we fell in love with the people, the culture and the quayside!

God has put a burden on our hearts to see the North East fall in love with Jesus. This city is full of passionate people, who care deeply for one another and know how to have fun. We know how much more hope, joy and freedom Jesus can bring here! So a team of us moved to Newcastle in Summer 2020, we hoped to meet in our home but the pandemic threw lots of challenges our way, meaning we met online or in cafes in small groups. We were thrilled, then, to meet in our home from Autumn 2021.

Throughout 2021, God grew our numbers with students, locals, and children and we outgrew our home and now meet in The Town Hall, Wallsend where we have continued to grow.

Ultimately, we believe God has called The River Church both to serve Newcastle, and to start other churches across the North East. A big dream, and we’d love you to be part of it.

What we believe

Word

We believe the Bible is the authoritative Word of God, so we study it, preach it and let it shape all that we do.

Church

Humans are created for community, with God and with one another. The church is to encourage, challenge and champion one another as we grow to be more like Jesus.

Spirit

Jesus promised in John 14 that our lives would be enriched by his Holy Spirit. We can expect then that by the Spirit we will hear from and encounter God, both in the mundane and the miraculous.

Mission

Matthew 28 calls all Christians to share the good news of Jesus with their friends and neighbours. The River Church has a specific calling within this commission to reach Newcastle and the North East.

One Thing is a discipleship year learning about how to live out the prayer in Psalm 27: “one thing have I asked of the Lord, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever”. It’s a year long programme serving Jesus and his church, growing in being His disciple in all aspects of life.
